Ogbolomabiri-Nembe
Ogbolomabiri-Nembe is a local government area in Bayelsa State, Nigeria. The
population of Nembe is about 130,931(2006 Nigerian Census). Nembe is only
accessible to Yenegoa (Bayelsa State Capital) by water. Water is the most commonly
used form of transportation usually open outboard commuter boats.
The historic town of Nembe is the center of culture in local government area. Cultural
celebrations, omungu aru, traditional dances and colorful masquerade are events that
peak in Easter and Christmas holiday seasons. Nembe is also noted for rich artistic
culture such as the women artia. Usually a double tied traditional wrappers for formal
occasions.
The royal Chief is His Royal Majesty King (Dr.) Edmond Daukuro FIC, CON, FNMGS, JP,
Mingi XII, Amanyanabo of Ogbolomabiri Nembe.
Nembe play host to Agip Oil Company and Nigerian Liquefied Gas Limited. Nembe
National Grammer School and the Community Girls Secondary School are the two
premier secondary schools in Ogbolomabiri-Nembe. There are banks, insurance agents,
hotels and quest houses, community health centers operating in Nembe township.
Other cottage industries exit but on a small scale. These include fish traders and
bakeries.
Community-Based Projects
Education
Advancement of education and intervention in capacity building are areas of deep concern and focus of Nembe Ibe USA.
The organization shall actively lobby private and public organizations for socio-economic developments and support
educational initiatives in the Nembe Community. For the 2009-2010 academic year, about nine students benefited from
the scholarship awards in Ogbolomabiri Nembe.
Rural Development
Projects undertaken by Nembe ibe USA will align and adopt strategies based on effective policy models for grass-root rural
development. Pro-Natura International (Nigeria) rural development policy model is embrassed in our Schools and health
care assistance programs. PNI (Nigeria) advocates that effectively implemented community led development process is a
viable tool for sustainable rural development, conflict resolution and economic improvement for poor and marginalised
communities.
